Story

Based in Salé, the company Colokolo – Cirque Urbain Marocain, created in 2013, brings together circus artists from the National Circus School SHEMS’Y. They practice the seesaw, Chinese pole, juggling and acrobatic lifts. Colokolo combines in an original way the circus arts with dance and theatre to develop a Moroccan identity of the performing arts.

Story (provisional title) is a project which consists of an artistic creation, training workshops and initiation to the circus arts in partnership with the National Circus School Shems’y and centres for young people.

The creation is inspired by the verbally transmitted tradition of Moroccan folk tales, in particular around the ”Rakkas”, an old name for the postman. A show to revisit eras and situations where the message was necessary, precious, and timeless. This project will bring together Cie Colokolo, the artistic director of the Theatre of the Oppressed in Casablanca for research and dramaturgy, and historians specializing in Morocco. In parallel with this creation, the Cie Colokolo will run introductory workshops in the circus arts for the benefit of young people from the outskirts of the cities of Rabat, Salé and Fez with an approach of ensuring social inclusion and professionalisation.
