City: Wassia, Tunisie
The team is composed of Kawthar Benlakhdar, project coordinator in social initiatives and cultural mediation, who conceived, designed and facilitated several projects using art and culture as a tool for questioning and building social cohesion; as well as Alessandro Rivera Magos, anthropologist, photographer and cultural mediator whose work combines visual ethnography and action-research, as well as the design, organisation and management of cultural and community projects.
The project consists of initiating a reflection on the cultural ecosystem existing in the village of Wassia, located in one of the poorest regions of Tunisia. In partnership with the “Cultural Center of Arts and Crafts of the Mountain of Jbel Semmama”, the aim is to create a “sensitive mapping” with the villagers, through collective research using photography and sound.
Thus, through an initiation into artistic practice, the aim of this work is to support the inhabitants of Semmama, especially young people, to encourage them to explore their environment and initiate them into reflection and the search for concrete solutions and alternatives for their village, helping to strengthen self-development dynamics through art and culture already initiated by the Cultural Center.
